Background
Bahrain Bay’s latest billboard celebrated Ramadan as well as underline continuing project progress.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is known as the month of fasting, when participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, and indulging in anything that is considered to be excessive or ill-natured, during daylight hours. From dawn until sunset, Muslims learn patience, modesty and spirituality. They offer more prayer than usual asking for forgiveness, guidance and purification.
The thought behind the design
The Muslim calendar is based on lunar phases. The month of Ramadan covers a full cycle, from new moon to new moon, therefore it was felt appropriate to use the night sky as the setting for our billboard. The focus of the design are the bright constellation of stars surrounding the crescent moon. This crescent moon is a recognised symbol for Ramadan indicating the beginning of the festival. In our design the moon takes the shape of the Four Seasons island and the remainder of the crescent shaped masterplan forms around this. Thus the crescent shaped masterplan echoes the crescent moon.
While fasting takes place during the day, the night is a time for celebration and thanks giving. As a result we chose to reveal the Bahrain Bay masterplan in the night sky. Bahrain Bay was destined. It is written in the stars. Bahrain Bay has a bright future. It can be seen as symbol of prosperity and optimism for Bahrain and the wider region.
The constellation illustrates the connectivity and flow of the carefully considered masterplan, linking the individual districts with one another, and ultimately linking Bahrain Bay with the Manama mainland.
A reflection of progress. The moon’s reflection in the sea emphasises Bahrain Bay’s waterside position. It also symbolises Bahrain Bay Development’s clear and transparent ethos.
